In 1886, a small group of General Baptist decided to build a church.  With little money and a lot of faith, a 32 ft x 32 ft building was completed on two acres of donated land.  It is believed that enough paint was obtained to paint the front door blue, giving our church the nickname of "Blue Door".

Growth brought about the need for a larger building.  In the early 1950's the congregation raised strawberries in order to earn money for construction costs.  Earning over $9,000 for the project, they were able to pay off the entire $25,000 balance in two years.  Upgrades since that time have added to the front and back of that structure.  In 2007, the church purchased ten (10) acres of adjoining land. This purchase enabled the church to build a fellowship hall and extend the parking area.  The former parsonage has since been converted to an education building complete with Sunday school rooms and a library.

We the members of Mitchellville General Baptist Church, with much humbleness, thank our Lord for this church and give Him all the credit for its existence.

After the construction of our present church building, the contractor handed the key to Garnett Hinton, Allen Hinton, Thurman Stevens, Fred Harmon (pastor), and Melvin Staggs.

Ruby Staggs, Cora Lee Hinton, Katie Coley and others raised strawberries to fund the construction of our church building.
